On Blue Heelers Did any one notice that the girl running down 64BW, came out of 12ABE. 1. 12ABE is facing around the other way. 2. It has no windows in it.

"The Recruit" at 8:30pm on Ch7 last night featured a few scenes of the goodie chasing after the baddie through some grand station in Washington DC.

Noted after the pursuit through the Acela on the platform, was some underground carriage stabling place, with a few roads of stainless steel passenger carriages. Does anyone know a thing about them, like what they're used for, etc?

Closely Watched Trains, 11.10pm tonight on SBS. Very good film, if you like Czech arthouse from the 1950s. It won an Oscar.

This may be a bit OT,but The Bill which is on ABC at 8:30pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays regularly features glimpses of trains in and around London.

I noticed last night though,on the show two of the actors passed a wall which contained a mural of a Red 1938 Tube Stock.

But yeah The Bill tends to have train scenes sporadically...

I've been naughty.

The 1941 mystery The Ghost Train, 4.30am tomorrow morning on ABC. Set your VCR tonight. Worth watching if you've never seen it before. Based on the play by Arnold Ridley.

'The Line' (The Transcontinental Railway)

Time: 21.30 Tue 27-Dec-05
Channel: 2
Duration: 50 Minutes. One part of a seven-part series.

In 1862, Abraham Lincoln signed the Pacific Railroad Act and two corporate giants pitched against each other in a race to join the east and west coasts of America.
Historical

R, PG

---------------------------

By the middle of the 19th century, the benefits brought by the host of advances of the industrial age were gradually beginning to reach America, which soon developed a spectacular achievement of its own - the Transcontinental Railway, reaching right across the continent.

With two teams, one building from the east and the other from California in the west, they battled against hostile terrain, hostile inhabitants, civil war and the Wild West. Yet in 1869, the two teams' tracks were joined, shrinking the whole American continent, as the journey from New York to San Francisco was reduced from months to days.

That is an excellently done series. I already have a video recoding of it from about August when it was shown for the first time. However, because I missed nearly every other episode of it from then, I am seeing all of them now even if the rest of my family already has seen it.

At the end of Surfing the Menu on ABC-TV on Wednesday night, Curtis and Bender wandered off from a station on the Healsville line, maybe Yarra Glen along the tracks to go fishing of a trestle bridge from which Bender was catching stick fish!

This week Fox Classics had the 1976 "Silver Streak" starring Gene Wilder on at 2030 Wed and 1200 Thurs.

Largely set aboard an "Amroad" train travelling from Los Angeles to Chicago the film was shot in Canada allegedly because Amtrak objected to the final scene where the two locos crash through the concourse at Chicago Union Station.

Another classic with a long train sequence that is frequently on Foxtel is Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" starring Cary Grant. The train sequence is on the Twentieth Century Limited travelling between New York and Chicago.

The final scene, considered by many to be rather daring, shows a train going into a tunnel.

At 10:30pm Eastern time (10:00 here), there will be a new rail series on Discovery Science. Looks like it may be worth it.

Lawrence of Arabia: The Battle for the Arab World, 9.30pm tomorrow (Tue 10/1) on ABC. This is a docu-drama containing some archival film (some filmed by Lawrence himself) and modern recreations on the surviving portion of the Hejaz Railway in Syria.
