Great comments:
1. Supports ATEC (see crompton isn't crazy)
2. 90% of business is rail
3. Whoever posted about starting a railfreight operation can see that Gibbins did it himself
4. Reefer madness - taking a bet that much more traffic in future will be refrigerated and getting in early.
If you need to get in touch, drop a comment at the Transport Textbook or on my blog.

Jeez I don't know how I missed that article!! I think I'll have to blame Michael (mjja) since he's working in the Corporate Communications department. (Great to see mjja with a REAL job!!!)
Bill is really one of the most remarkable men I've ever met.
Comments about your comments:-
1. The ATEC will be a goer and FCL continues to invest millions in the Parkes hub concept. I think we have about 200 hectares of land adjacent to the rail. The concept is a huge business park with imports railed direct from Pt Botany (or Port Kembla) to bond stores/ warehousing in Parkes and then freight distributed nationally by rail to all capitals. Also, Central West produce to be railed back to eastern ports for export. From that concept, dear reader, you can see how ATEC is an absolute requirement.
2. The $65million we paid PacNat (ahem, your wages, BDA!) represent just over 1 million tonnes of freight. About 3,000 tonnes per day.
3. Yes, I replied to that poster yesterday with some of my experiences in sales. It's harder than it looks, I can tell you.
4. The reefer stuff has gone crazy. All FCL reefers are white so you can easily spot them. They come in all shapes and sizes and are basically all conceived by Bill himself. He's one shrewd guy. If anyone wants to model FCL boxes for their layouts, PM me for dimensions, photos, etc.
One of FCL greatest supporters is that old political warhorse, Tim Fischer.

Spent half an hour today scanning that article and making an A4 PDF version.
Good article - accurate, positive, emphasis on rail.
Happy Gunzelling and remember, "Go by rail!"

Are there any artist's impressions or site plans available to the public that you could post?
Cheers

I saw a bunch of plans on my bosses desk. I'll ask him if he has something that's not commercial-in-confidence. Part of the rail concept is for an extra 'Y' to link the northbound track (Dubbo, I guess) with the Broken Hill bound line. I think we are looking at 4 x 1800 metre sidings for FCL. I'll see what I can get hold of but I'll probably have to snail-mail it to someone for posting.

Doh !!!!!
Does this mean I have to rebuild my MSTS intermodal yard again?
I put 2x 1000 or 1500M straights , excluding the very long approaches :/

Absolutely , its difficult when all the freight forwarders and rail operators are killing each other for our services . Drivers I mean , not my employers .
