Well, I WAS going to defer to mjja to report this but he has been too slack about reporting it....I guess he's just too busy up in the Ops. Department!!
FCL moved a record 10,616 TEUs of freight (TEU = twenty-foot-equivalent unit) for the month of October. About 95% of this is moved by rail, a small % by sea and a still smaller % by road.
It goes to show that you can make a healthy go at moving freight by rail.

So FCL have set a new record! And this only a few months after Michael (mjja) started working for them! Is there a connection? Perhaps that's why he didn't report it? Modesty prevented him doing so!

Actually the record was the month I arrived. So it wasn't even a delayed action, just the moment I came in the door!

Parkes Hub , curious to know why FCL drives some containers to Parkes (Goobang) then rails them to Perth . Also , what percentage of the overall goes to/from Cooks River ?

That would be mostly from Sydney. The train leaves Chullora before the some customers have finished loading so we have to road it to Parkes to catch up with the train. Also, there is a lot of stuff ex-Brisbane destined for Perth or Adelaide that gets transferred at Parkes onto the train. That will be going by rail once the inland railway gets going....but we all may be retired by then!
Another problem is that the railways haven't caught up with the diversity of where the freight is going to/from....such as Port Kembla. This means that we have to off load the boxes at Parkes then find some driver to road it to the final destination....very inefficient!
I'd guess that Cooks still sees about 40-45 TEU per day on the Perth train (*SP7, I think)....esp the Friday service (which actually leaves Cooks Saturday morning at 11AM) which is always max'ed out.
So assuming 45 TEU per day x 6 days per week x 4 weeks would be 270-300 TEU per month plus the inbound as well would make it a rough total of 500-600 TEU both ways. So, out of 10,000 that makes about 5%. Bear in mind that Cooks really only does Perth traffic the rest is loaded at your Chullora depot.
That doesn't count the Blayney trains but they are really Port Botany/ Newcastle loadings but they do load MT's at Cooks to go to Blayney.
