Thought I might help boost the numbers on the Tassie forum. Very Happy
I took this photo at Western Junction in 1993.

I assumed that the lettering cast on this point lever weight stands for Zeehan & North Dundas Mountain Tramway. Is this correct?
And would there be others like this in use or did I just happen across the only one in existance?

I have a few other Tasmanian photos on my site at http://www.hobbiesplus.com.au/gunzel_gallery/tasmania.htm

An interesting question.

The TGR were great ones at reusing parts. I don’t recall seeing one of these counterweights around, but I have seen others just as old still in service.

Now onto the name. From my brief reading, the initials don’t seem to match any of the lines built or proposed. The date is right for the commencement of the line Williamsford line, and as this was a TGR line it seems logical it was for this railway. Zeehand & North Dundas is logical, although by opening it had become North East Dundas. The line was usually a “Railway” to the TGR, occasionally a Tramway to the public.

I’ve no idea for sure what the “M” stood for. Mountain as you suggested is a reasonable guess, as could Mining, given the lines use. This may be the name used on the construction drawing/contracts, but without visiting the National Archives I can’t say what name these used. I have seen the term “Mountain” used in the lines name very occasionally, most notably in a 1910ish tourist book published when the line was open. The TGR used the name Williamsford Line (I think), and the publisher mentioned the name North East Dundas Mountain Railway(?)

Thanks Stuart. I hadn't seen the initials anywhere before either. But I realised it was worth taking a photo at the time. I'd probably have forgotten all about it by now otherwise.
I saw a number of similarly aged counterweights too. But didn't go around taking photos of all of them. No digital camera back then.
I found this particular one up the far end of the sidings out of Western Junction. They had a number of ex-QR locos stored on them at the time (1993). I expect that the locos are gone. But perhaps the point weight is still there. Or have the sidings gone too?

The sidings are still there and are used most of the time for vehicles coming off the mainline to or from the Launceston area. The points on the main and loop have large upright levers, but the remaining tracks still use this type of lever. Last time I went deep into WJ yard I was guard on a special passenger, and didn't have time to look at the levers I was throwing.

The ZCs that were there made the core of the locos sold to MK and rebuilt to MKA locos in South Australia.

Good to hear the sidings are still there and in use. When I was there in 1993, there were 7 locos on one of the sidings. 2 ZBs and 5 ZCs. Although 2 or 3 of the ZC's still had their QR numbers, including 1301 and 1329 (I took photos of them). I'd have to check the video taken at the time to find out what the others were.
