6AL8 is anticipated to run. Vanilla NR expected for motive power. There shouldn't need to be a cancelation of the service, as there will be 3hrs to shunt before the 1st ghan to the top end.
The only way it could be cancelled would be due to very low bookings..

While we're talking about NR's and Ghans to Darwin... Any money says NR109 and NR74 on the first Ghan to Darwin.

They are the two locomotives that will work the train at this stage. |
Yep, how long ago did NR109 get its Ghan colours, and will it keep them?
