What no X class? It is the first GL to Canberra. GL 104 was supposed to be on the logs, but it never made it out of Junee on the transfer of the wagons (it's now with PN, and they are still having trouble with it).
If you get this (Alco king), I'll come over and have a look.

I have pitcures (below) of GL108 in Fyshwick today (nothing special).

Notice in the first picture, logs going to Port Kembla by road. I hear a rumour that the log train will be starting up again, three days a week. Can anyone confirm?

This combo (GL108 / B80) would have to comprise one of the oldest and one of the newest locos running? Just how fresh is GL108? Does anyone know when B80 first made smoke? Early 1950s? Grateful if anyone can shed light on this.

Cheers,
Justin

I was talking to Tumba (driver of the shunt), on saturday morning, thats what he said.

GL 108 is the newest GL, to the best of my knowlege. B80 entered traffic on 19/10/1953.

AlcoKing,

Any idea if the GL will be returning? Any confirmation of the log-train rumour (which I also heard from Tumby)?

Cheers,
Justin

The word is that the GL/B combo will be the go for a while. The GL was hired to increase the maximum load we can take down to Canberra. We had some minor problems like a blocked fuel filter but we cleaned it out and we were on our way. The GL and B are coming down Monday night again. The trains should be running with 24 tanks again. The GL is smoother riding than the X's but stillnot as smooth as the B. Obviously the GL has all the creatcher comforts and is a pleasure to drive. Very Happy
