I made a prediction in another thread (http://www.railpage.org.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5138) and it looks like it may have been self fulfilling.
Canberrans would have heard on last night's news and in today's Canberra Times that the "sparsely used industrial land" between Kingston and the Monaro Highway is to be redeveloped as residential land over the next 4 years. Although not specifically mentioned, the ARHS museum/depot is right in the middle of this area.
Has there been any consultation with ARHS about this, particularly about preservation of the museum site within the development or relocating the museum further up the line?
Since the redevelopment is from Canberra Ave to the wetlands, and will include the redevelopment on both sides of the line, I have a suspicion that some developers will push to close the railway west of the Monaro Highway.
I think it might be time to start writing letters to Simon Corbell.
Cheers
David

Queanbeyan is too small and Goulburn is too far away. If it absolutely had to move, I would think a greenfield site near Harman would work. Or even Hume, provided it didn't get in the way of any future intermodal terminal.

That would be one hell of a lot of work. I suppose in the short term you could use the oil sidings down near Harman, they have a good barb wire fence around them, but you'd only get 4 carridges in there.
Now if I was cunning, I'd build it with tracks on both side of the border, so you can take advantage of tings in both the ACT and NSW, or is that just double the trouble with two sets of legislation to wory about.
Mind you, I would not be putting up your new shed now. I'd put it down at some place like Michalago.

That would first require being able to get trains through to Michelago.

I was not aware the cave clan ever had a BBS. I know they had web based forums. And yes, I posted to those on occasin. Why ask, that doesn't make me less of a train and tram enthusiast.
