Hi all

Somebody at aus.rail suggested that the have been rumours of a hidden or "secret" railway station built out at Tullamarine.

I presume the poster is referring to the airport.

Can anyone shed more light on this secret station? Is it underground below the airport?

cheers Peter

Hi Peter.  I have also heard these rumours about a railway station being built as per the orginal "plan" for tullamarine.  I have not however seen it order have spoken with anyone who has indeed seen it.

Brian

There is "provision" for a railway station underneeath the multi story car park out the front. I think it's just a cavity with support columns and blanked off box tunnels at each end. Think of Box Hill without any track or platforms.

The foundations of the original terminal building were also built with provision for an underground station. This means you could tunnel under the terminal without any problems.

Cheers

It must be untrue. I just cannot imagine such insight and forward thinking by a government.

Yes David.......think that cavernous car park monstrosity at Cairns that replaced the "proper station"

As some of you boys and girls would know..........the easement to the south side of the old main goods lines between SSS and NME, that is, between the goods lines and Wara....Waradaringa?.....oh.....something like that......the roadway that replaced Footscray Road/Cowper Street on top of the old "East Yard" was "provided" (left for the railway) to eventually provide a right-of-way for the Sydney VFT an/or airport link.

Of course....after the financial disappointments of the Sydney and Brisbane airport lines, I'm not counting on seeing this within my remaining lifetime!

It had nothing to do with the government. Australia Pacific Airports Corporation owns the airport and built the car park.

I am a very enthusiastic pilot and i have been to tullamarine about 400 times and there is NO secret station under any part of the airport. I think there would be great value building one though,l I know in Sydney its very useful and it should be done here before the commonwealth games

did you read the whole thing? someone asked about a rumor of a station, it was then later stated there is no station but a "cave" for future development

Hi all

To those doubters who don't believe that there is a secret station under the Airport consider this. If everyone knew about the station it would not be a secret!

So if there is a secret station, can I go there and board a secret train to a secret place?

But only if I keep the details of my Metcard a secret from any secret ticket inspectors...

This is silly. If there was such a thing, then why build it and not use it? How silly!

Which is why they didn't actually build it. But the terminal and the car park were built in such a way that a station COULD be built with minimal impact on existing buildings.

Thanks David

However I think he is referring not to the space set aside for a railway station at Tullamarine but the fully built secret underground station underneath the terminal.  Twisted Evil
