ARHS 4807 (reportedly crewed by ARG) left Canberra this morning with some of the disused fuel tankers which have been stored in the yard. It ran as train 2270 destined for Moss Vale. 4807 will return light engine this arvo.
The tankers are going to Braemar for recovery of bogies, brake gear, etc and scrapping. There is rumoured to be another movement of disused tankers from Goulburn South Yard later in the week or early next week.
Cheers
David

Those tankers have been there a long time haven't they? I can remember going to a fancy celebration in the yard in about 1993 when the explorer first came out and seeing a long line up of tankers.

IIRC, these tankers were owned by one of the oil companies and stored in various yards (including Canberra and Goulburn). Prior to privatisation of AN Freight, AN reclaimed some wagons they had given as their contribution to NRC. AN bought these private tank wagons to replace them, but of course NR had no use for them. AIUI, PN has now sold them to Bradken, although some stored at Goulburn have reportedly been sold to Silverton.

The tankers stored in Canberra were acctually old departmental diesel fuel tanks (coded "L", mechanical branch) not NTAF or other privately owned tankers. The ones in Goulburn yard I think were old AMPOL NTAFs, but I'm not sure. Who ever told you it was an ARG crew lied, it was an ARHS crew.
