Great Southern Railway names new ceo
Great Southern Railway has appointed former Dreamworld Theme Park boss Tony Braxton-Smith as its new chief executive.
He replaces Stephen Bradford-Ford who left the company in January to take up the chief executive role at the Port Authority of Melbourne.
Adelaide-based Great Southern Railway owns and operates the Indian Pacific, The Ghan and The Overland tourist trains. It also operates its own domestic holiday program for the train products, Trainways.

Not sure about his track record
At least he will have his eye on revenue and market, unlike Grungylink

Obviously the people who appointed him wanted someone who knew about bringing tourist-type customers in, not someone who knows about running railways. I guess it's a sign of the times - GSR is primarily a tourist attraction, the fact that it is on rails is a secondary factor.
I for one would rather it was that way than the opposite - if a "big shot"from FA or PN tried to run GSR, it would be back in the red ink of ANR days pretty soon.
Happy Gunzelling and remember, "Go by rail!"

These days you need to have "connections" , someone with background like that knows how to market the train, knows what tourists wants which counts for clear majority of the GSR patronage. Also someone like that would know what the policy makers, and politicans want, which will help in the long run.
