lol. yeah this is my photo, it shows both of the sets of railcars that stuart made mention of. the red and cream belong to the DRR, and the green/brown and cream set are the burnie council's. the latter have had a few problems of late and have been at don in the workshops fairly regularly.

Derwent Valley Railway. They got the best rolling stock according to me and with bit of money they could be running regular services Hobart to Ross.

well i am up now and i am feeling rather ill. i must say i did a better job at typing this one than the one in the new locomotives thread. this one actually made some sense too.
being tasmania the whole north v south thing will probably have an effect on people's views.
don would be better if it went a few km the other direction to the arboretum or however you spell it. coles beach, well it kills me when i am selling tickets and people ask what there is at the other end of the line. when the weather is cold, the answer is of course: nothing. in the summer time well there is a beach, but most tourists find the water a touch on the cold side anyway.
DVR will be real good is that airwalk thingy is built at maydeena.

Don’t know. Because things have been a little boring recently and nothing has happened to report? How many active users are there of RP2 who actually live in Tasmania

I guess so, but I don't use drugs so my songs are of poorer quality

I think that there are many interesting things around Tasmania in terms of tourist/heritage railways but they are not organised well in terms of marketing. Rail organisations do not take benefit of beautiful Tasmanian landscape, it seems that they are satisfied by just running trains. It took me whole day to track down all Tasmanian tourist/heritage rail organisations; there's very little information.
I think there's great opportunity to re-live TransTasman train if there's only solid business plan, something like GSR does. Of course you would need to have hop-on-ho-off the train tours, excellent service, etc, etc. With landscape and beauties you got down there it would tourist boom. At least I would prefer it over seeing endless deserts.
Btw is there snow falls down there and is it accessible by railway?
Regards,
Alex

the most scenic bit is probably from devonport to wynyard and from burnie to melba. the latter recieves snow fall regularly as far as i know.
DRR runs trains along the dev-burnie section pretty often, there is 1 this sat infact, and of course there is the burnie market train which is currently running every week.
as far the bit about the transtasman, well the government was do somethign along these lines a few years back but it never really got off the ground, and it seems as though they have now lost interest in the states railways. an example of this would be their reluctance to upgrade a couple of bridges on the scottsdale line, which has now been closed because of this. this line is also very scenic (ok so they are all scenic) and DRR ran trains up there quite a lot, this tourist opportunity has now also been lost.
i dont htink a trans tasman would be feasibkle until the track was upgraded.
while we are on business opportunities, a regular passenger service would be able to snuff out the busses if the track allowed the trains to travel fast enough.
