Just heard on the 1pm ABC Vic news that a deal was signed for ARTC to manage all rail networks in Australia except the Queensland network.
We already know about the NSW deal made recently.
Below is the full story from the ABC webb site:
The Federal Government is planning to dramatically increase the amount of freight travelling by rail across Australia.
An agreement has been signed so the Federal Government-owned Australian Rail Track Corporation will manage rail freight Australia-wide
Queensland is not included in the agreement, but it has been described as a significant milestone because it is the first time freight operators can deal with a single management body.
Federal Transport Minister John Anderson says a coordinated track network means rail can triple its freight capacity.
"I would like to see around a third of freight travelling up the east coast on rail, at the moment it struggles to get between about 10 and 15 per cent," he said.
Mr Anderson says growth for freight travelling by rail will not adversely affect the trucking industry.
What happens with the FA lease on Victorias network was it bought out or on leased by ARTC?
Also what about ARG's network in WA was it also bought out or on leased?
There was no mention of the above leases in the story.
I think the ABC meant the NSW network.
