Taxpayers will have to pay millions of dollars to modify the brakes on
M>Train's fleet of new Siemens trains, the State Government confirmed
yesterday. Drivers have complained that they have insufficient control
over the force of the brakes and that the new trains, which feature
electric brakes, restrict the way they can be removed from the scene of
a breakdown. The electric brakes, which lock up in a breakdown, are not
compatible with the air brakes of older trains, meaning the older trains
cannot be used to push the newer models out of the way. Rail, Tram and
Bus Union state president Marc Marotta blamed the former National
Express management for ordering "the cheapest train they could get".

Should have just refurbished the Hitachi's. Probably would have been better than the new junk Melbourne is getting. Ah well, hopefully it will fall apart after 10 years and they can get something better. Wink

Better than the government getting a new design done, reinventing the wheel all along the way, and spending $10m just to see which companies are willing to do the work. This way at least we know they will run.

TRUE!
The siemens train are from the Mo.Mo range of trains from Siemens, M> didn't like the name Mo.Mo so they called it nexas but then changed the name yet again to siemens.

If you go on the mo.mo website it says they are for underground use.

Re-furbish the Hitachi's!! All for it I say. However the Siemens were designed for longer running than the X'Traps. Just like Fed. Square, you think its great and when its finished youy hate it and cant get rid of it.

Mo.Mo is a No.No

As I mentioned in another thread, Most Hitachi's have already been refurbished, only a handful of Connex Hitachi's didn't get refurbished, but all of M>Train's sets did.

Sets 92 ish to 104 in the refurbishment program were not a full refurbishment, the railways were getting very cheap by this stage.

Last set, 104 was out around Christmas 2000.

I saw a 6-car Siemens (without Livery) today at South Yarra at 14.11 Very Happy

Surely thats a good sign... especially about the fact today was wet, could it have been testing new brakes?

Missing as in someone's nicked it? Broke in one night and strolled off with it in their pocket?
