I'd be surprised if any of them use rail except, perhaps, for export freight.

That is a major loss. Both have containerised export traffic I believe?

Does Kraft have a siding in Strathmerton?

But if FA came to us with a proposal to use our thermoking refrigerated containers plus our local road delivery capability, we could all go places.....literally!!!

No, they won't. It's all too hard. They can't even unload/load containers over 40' in length at country depots. They have a 'born to rule' attitude and figure that if it's going to go on rail, THEY are the only ones who can do it. Therefore, the freight stays firmly on the roads.

And the mess is about to get a lot worse

http://www.railpage.com.au/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=657&mode=&order=0&thold=0

This news article is so revealing in terms of FA motivation and lack of enthusiasm for developing customers, it all makes sense. I don't believe FA had any intention of investing in track and infrastructure. They were in for the quick buck. This issue with the government is a smoke screen.

One other observation, I don't this situation with FA and the government will do anything for FA's reputation either. Just add this current debate to the derailment problems which plague the network.

It looks VERY sad.
