I assume you fixed the WAG file I sent then? (just move the freight anim line to above the intake lines)

Still a bit more tweaking and adjustments to do on the models, but I'm now aiming for next weekend release.

hi paul,
yes, nutted that one out.
i did some load tests over the weekend on peter's route which is 1 in 40 on the branch.
i have got the eng file spot on now as with a full load it crept over the crest at 8mph just as the steam pressure was about to start dropping.
i still want to do some more tests with the brake so the auxilliaries pump up reallistically i'll try and have them done for you tomorrow night sometime.
sorry about the one i sent the other night as it got mixed up with another project i'm working on.
that explains the wrong wheel diameters etc.
cheers for now
ian

Looking good for a release at the weekend - thanks to Ian for work on the ENG file (which I have yet to test)

Crew figures are much harder than kangaroos !

Only one more item needs adding - can you spot what is missing? Wink

Should be easier then the crew for sure Smile

That D50 is looking better and better each time you post pics of it - it's definately set the standard of Aussie MSTS models Smile

My co-conspirator on highworth got some poor crew at the GCR near leicester (I think) to stand still while he took front side and rear photos. They were not ideal, but could be used with a bit of editing.

I then built the man in 3DC, using mainly extrusions and front & side photos for scaling - similar to the whale example in the 3DC tutorials.

Then I add the "bone" as per the "It's Ming" tutorial which then allows me to pose the model. It takes a lot of fiddling around as the bones don't do a 100% job, but the end results are reasonable.

(edit - you need your photo subjects to stand a bit like this Smile )

I may publish a few posable "human" figure 3DC files at some point, once I have crew for all of my locos (about 20 of them) - I should have got it right by then.

Even with the smoothing, they are a little "heavy" at 290 polys each, but my locos can probably handle them.

I'll set them us as a freight animation so a simple edit of the ENG file will enable/disable them.

Useful things freight animations, I've used them to add different head codes to locos and chain couplings up/down/combinations, even different coach numbers to the same model.[/img]

They look pretty good to me. I must try to get some of the local guys at my nearest preservation group to pose, I'm sure they would get a real kick out of that. If you want I can send you the resultant images if you like so that you can use them for your crew. There is one guy that comes to mind (a BIG Austrian) who really looks the part as he is as wide as he is tall. Poly count for him would higher though to model all the lumps and bumps lol Laughing

When you mentioned you wanted to do 3d crew i kept this in mind in case i came across some ready made meshs, well i found one you can use for both driver/fireman.

NB the download is ut2003 format. Maybe the author can supply useable sources.

Laughing very nice model, probably about 1500 polys though...

Mine are far from perfect, but look OK from a distance.

...All modelling is now complete, just sorting out the details...

The D50 has finally arrived at Steam4Me

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it Smile

Note:
Due to my UK commitments, I'll not be doing any more Aussie locos for a little while.
If any 3D canvas users would like to make new versions, repaints or different models (e.g. D53 or commonwealth K class) just e-mail me and I'll send the source files.
