After James note today, and since we lost my last progress thread in the troubles the other week, here is the latest on the D50 (not much further than last time due to Oz Animal and UK commitments)
Still early days, textures are temporary.

Ian - If they are the ones you sent with the plans, then yes.
I've got 4-5 reasonable pics from the net, but I may need a couple more once the model is nearly complete.
(Should have gone to Thirlmere when I had the chance)

i'll get onto peter and see what he has got in his box of tricks.
i'm sure he mentioned that he had a lot of shots of this loco.
cheers for now

I'm back to building this beast again.
I am going a bit overboard on the details and it is taking a while to build. Even so, the loco is still under 4000 polys

Nice. Something you might like to think about is that the Commonwealth Railways K class was a copy of the D50. Very little modification would be required.
Cheers

Due to other UK commitments, I'm probably going to make the source of this one public for 3D canvas users.
It seems there are several similar classes that could be built from this.

that is sensational work paul.
i never dreamed it would come up as good as that.
it proves the point that tsm doesn't hold a candle to the capabilities of 3d canvas pro.
as i said the other night in email, as soon as my unfinished tsm projects are finished it is going in the bin.
cheers and keep up the excellent work

Joffie - I'm using 3D canvas Pro (as Ian said)
I still believe you can produce the same quality models with TSM.
In the UK scene, there is very little difference between my models and Robin Howells (who colaborates with me on the Highworth project) and he uses TSM.
It's all down to the modeller - the resulting files should be the same. I notice a lot of TSM modellers tend to "smooth" their models too much so that edges go missing and the models look a bit odd.
TSM does have a few limitations, but most can be got around with a little care.
Canvas just has the added benefit of all my plug-ins which takes out a lot of the effort, leaving more time for details and give consistent results.
I also have a background in 3D theory so I know what works and is efficient.
Texturing is also vitally important - flat colours just don't work with steam models, and black is definitely not black!
I should get a bit more done tonight...

Fantastic effort Paul, it looks very realistic.
