Railpage Australia™ FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Category: Main -> Adding Images to Forum Posts

Question
·  How can I add my Fotopic photos to my forum post?

Answer
·  How can I add my Fotopic photos to my forum post?

Through my.fotopic

Thanks to M_Train for his in-depth guide.

When all else fails, RTFM: Fotopic's direct linking guide

  1. Now to grab the thunbnail and directlink image url's you have to be logged into the My Fotopic. From there you select the gallery on the left hand side list, then select the collection that the image is in, eg:
    http://images.fotopic.net/ykskgp_90fdc6bc8d17addd0d69946fe073362f.jpg
  2. You then click on the image you want which will show the following popup window:
    http://images.fotopic.net/ykskgq_90fdc6bc8d17addd0d69946fe073362f.jpg
  3. You then click on the "Info" tab to get your Thunbnail and Directlink URL's:
    http://images.fotopic.net/ykskgr_90fdc6bc8d17addd0d69946fe073362f.jpg

You now have the URL needed to Direct Link images on Railpage. Here are some examples of what can be achieved:

An example of a thumbnail image:
[img]http://thumbs.fotopic.net/468030000983.jpg[/img]

An example of a direct-linked image:
[img]http://images.fotopic.net/yig2zv.jpg[/img]

If you want to use the image to link to your gallery, or the full sized image, wrap the BBCode [img][/img] tags with [url][/url] tags, thus:
[url=http://images.fotopic.net/yig2zv.jpg][img]http://thumbs.fotopic.net/468030000983.jpg[/img][/url]

By default fotopic automatically crops images to the size seen above. To show an image with it's origional size, add "/fullsize/" to the link. For example:
http://images.fotopic.net/fullsize/yig2zv.jpg

Without using my.fotopic (direct image)

Thanks to Somebody in the WWW for his additions.

Go into your picture, say I'll use this example. Right click on the main picture and select "Properties" from the menu. There you will get the main image URL: in Internet Explorer, it's called the "Address (URL)" value, and in Firefox it's called "Location".
Note: most browsers now will have an option in the right-click menu called either "Copy Image Address" or "Copy Image Location".
The image address will look like this: http://images5.fotopic.net/?iid=y4dsnb&outx=0&quality=70&noresize=1. Take note of the bolded section of the address; that's the important part.

Now, go to your post and enter the image in like this: [img]http://images.fotopic.net/y4dsnb.jpg[/img]
