As part of the re-activation process several were given names of locations along the Adelaide-Darwin railway, where many of these locomotives were employed during the construction of the line. The re-activation process also saw these locomotives fitted with air-conditioning. Of the 16 locomotives acquired from FreightCorp, two remain in as-acquired condition and in storage at Forrestfield, WA.
When Australian Railroad Group (the successor to ASR) was split up, the 22 Class found new homes under Genesee & Wyoming and QR National (later Aurizon).
We identify rebuilt and renumbered locomotives from this class as well as other classes with similar mechanical configurations and present those classes below.
