GrainCorp were allocated a number of (former Pacific National) 48 Class locomotives by the NSW Government for use on regional branch lines. These locomotives were slowly cycled through Junee Railway Workshops for repaint and overhaul, with all of the locomotives being renumbered into the "482" number series.
The "GPU" locomotives are additional 48 Class purchased by GrainCorp from Pacific National. "GPU" stands for "GrainCorp Power Unit", and they are intended for use as additional power on grain trains, although they are not to be used as lead units.
