T414 began life with BHP Whyalla as DE02. Whilst many of the other Whyalla based G8B/G12B locomotives were rebuilt, DE02 was not, stored and stripped of parts. During 2005/2006, DE02 was brought back to life by RTS, rebuilt for SCT to use as their Goobang Jct (Parkes, NSW) shunter. The overall design of the rebuilt locomotive looks very similar to the series three T Class locomotives, hence the new number.
