Previous description | Lw276 was purchased by Westrail from Comalco Weipa. Previously their R1.002. The "w" designation (not carried on the locomotive) signified lack of dynamic brakes, as well as heavier mass. One suspects it might also have referred to its previous life at Weipa. Lw276 was always used as a trailing unit. When the prime mover was swapped into another L class, it was found to vibrate badly. Lw276 was sold, rebuilt into standard LZ format with the ballast removed, then re-entered ARG service as LZ3120. |
