Delivered in batches between 1948 and 1968, the V Class lead the dieselisation of the TGR's fleet until their retirement in 1987. Built from a standard design by Vulcan Foundry, under license from Drewry Car Co., the first batch of four was delivered in 1948 and almost identical to the British Rail Class 04 design. Two further units were delivered from the UK in 1951 and again in 1955, while a further four were built at the TGR's Launceston Workshops between 1959 and 1968.
We identify rebuilt and renumbered locomotives from this class as well as other classes with similar mechanical configurations and present those classes below.
