Gi'day All;

just a quick type to let you all know, those that are going to give this a try, that it works well.

I have used this utility on the Ballarat Route and had great results.
I changed each signal radius to the whole figure, of one, leaving the portion there. I followed the README instruction with the zip

ie: ( 0.12 ) to ( 1.12 ) , ( 0.04 ) to ( 1.04 ) or ( 0.08 ) to ( 1.08 )

These were the only figures for each radius I found.

Now the result, from a Kilometre out I could see the signal colour. I was in the great N Class Cab in the pouring rain around 1300Hr on the up Melbourne 5 car passenger.

Next I will give an evening train a try.

I hope others give this try.

I tried Pimmy's numbers and they work well. Smile This SigView thing is certainly an improvement.

I did Pimmy's above type settings and for Ballarat route these look good.
Very realistic too, can be seen good way down the track easily.

Daytime shot.

Night shot.

Yes this is another nice added addition to MSTS.

While I was at Maple Leaf, I downloaded their freebie Dash9, very nicely done too.

I changed the engine number of the default Dash9.

I noted the ".s" file of new dash9 cannot be opened by the usual ".s" file converter.
This is first ".s" file I've found that cannot be uncompessed.
Comes up with unknown format. Any ideas lads.

Gi'day All;
just a quick update, to my last post, about this terrific utility.

I have altered the signal radius for each Aussie route I have installed. I have most of them, Ballarat, Illawarra, Sydney West, Coal Road, Newcastle, Blue Mountains & Olympic Park. This covers most of them I'm sure.

Anyway to cut a long type short, the utility of altering the signal radius is a great result on these routes.
I just add the whole figure of ONE to each radius. Above post explains this.

The only problem I have found is the Coals to Newcastle route (CtoNew). As stated early I adjusted each signal radius to the whole value of ONE plus portion left on each signal.
Now the result in the CtoNew is there appears a block around each signal. This allows the signal to be read, however appears to make the background disappear around the signal for 6 x 6 foot block.

I am working on new figures to correct this in the CtoNew route.
I'll let you know how I go, or maybe someone has done this already.

Gi'day All again;
just a quick update to let those that are interested about this utility and the figures I've come up with.

For all the Aussie routes, I adjusted the signal figures to the whole of One and kept the remainder,

ie: ( 0.012 ) to ( 1.012 ) ( 0.108 ) to ( 1.108 ) etc etc.

My figures for the Coals to Newcastle Route I adjusted only by .5 ,

ie: (0.108 ) to ( 0.608 ) ( 0.012 ) to ( 0.512 ) etc etc.
These figures reduced the background distortion from a 6 x 6 foot box to a much smaller distortion. IMO it gives a much better appearance.

Those that haven't given this utility a try, please do as it really brings the signal detail out to a more readable distance.

Go on, give it ago. It's worth it.

Just a sugesstion for those non-computer literarate:
1. always copy the file before making changes
2. use the Find / Replace option in the editor replacing "0." with "1." From memory there were over 60 changes made for BM3 route, that is 60 chances of making a typo causing the route to "phone home"

XP Pro with SP2 and still sane !

Hi, I would like to know where i can find the Melbourne to Ballarat route for MSTS, and i would prefer it in a setup.exe, becuase they are easier to install, and i dont know how to do the zip files.

Thanks, SRHC Service

You can find a number of routes at http://austmstsworkshops.freeforums.org/index.php. The original version of the Melbourne - Ballarat route is there, but I don't know whether it is in an exe file.
