Watkins 'impressed' by next gen trains

New South Wales Rail NewsNew South Wales Transport Minister John Watkins says he is very impressed with the next generation of trains set to take over on the state's rail network.

Mr Watkins has inspected a life-size model of a carriage, which has been built to get feedback from RailCorp staff, commuters and disability groups.

The 626 new air conditioned carriages will have more wheelchair spaces, electronic screens and emergency help points, and will incorporate the recommendations from the Waterfall inquiry.

Seven people were killed when a Tangara train derailed near Waterfall station in January 2003.

Mr Watkins says the new trains will begin to be introduced in 2010.
