Overland Breaks Down at Monarto South

South Australian Rail NewsA LOCOMOTIVE breakdown left Overland passengers stranded for almost four hours near Monarto Thursday afternoon.

The train, which was travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide, broke down about 4.30pm because of an unknown mechanical fault.

Passengers were stuck on the train while a replacement locomotive was sent to Monarto.

A spokeswoman for Great Southern Railways said passengers were given free dinner and drinks to compensate for the delay.

The train arrived in Adelaide just after 9.30pm last night.
