| Man survives after being hit by freight train |
Police are investigating how a 42-year-old man was struck by a freight train in Western Australia's wheatbelt this morning.
Police were called to the Merredin train station about 2.30am AWST when the driver of a freight train noticed the man lying near the railway lines.
He had sustained serious head and internal injuries and his right foot was severed.
It is believed he had been struck by an earlier train.
The man was taken to the Merredin Hospital and later transported to Royal Perth Hospital.
He is in a critical but stable condition.
