[ABC] Vic Govt lobbied for better regional public transport

Victorian Rail NewsThe Victorian Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability is calling on the Victorian Government to plough more money into regional public transport.

Doctor Ian McPhail has completed a report which urges the Government to place a higher priority on public transport in the state.

He says high petrol prices are forcing more regional Victorians to use public transport and some services are struggling to cope.

"There are people who almost bring their little fold up seats to sit on country rail lines, V/Lines going into the metropolitan area so we've got a real demand there," he said.

"It's a funny old thing, most of the shop keepers would love it if they could hardly fit the number of customers into the doors, but public public transport seems to run the other way."
