| State owned rail least preferred option: Minister |
 Tasmania's Infrastructure Minister says a State Government takeover of the rail network is the least preferred option now that Pacific National has decided to cease operations.
Pacific National, which transports freight containers across the state, has its rolling stock on the market.
Graeme Sturges has told ABC Local Radio he's talked to prospective rail operators about investing in Tasmania.
"We are committed to the rail rescue package of $122 million and we'll continue with that package and we'll let the orderly process take its course," Mr Sturges said.
"I'm very confident that we'll have a good resolution of this issue in the not too distant future," he said.
Mr Sturges last night had dinner with Federal Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese ahead of a meeting of state and territory counterparts in Sydney today.
Among other things he discussed how Tasmania can source funding from the Commonwealth's Building Australia fund.
Mr Sturges said last night's meeting was a positive one.
"I was very heartened last night to get reassurance from the Federal minister that all Federal election commitments that were made in relation to infrastructure will be followed through to Tasmania so I think that was a very positive comment to receive from him," he said.
