[ABC] CityRail warns of weekend travel delays

New South Wales Rail NewsCityRail is telling train passengers to factor in extra travel time this long weekend because of extensive track work on the south coast, northern, Newcastle and central coast lines.

Buses are replacing trains between Thirroul and Waterfall and between Hornsby and Strathfield, while all Newcastle and central coast services will run via the North Shore.

CityRail spokeswoman Cie'Jai Leggett says the disruptions in the north will allow construction on one of the junctions for the Epping to Chatswood rail link.

"We have planned this particularly on this weekend so we could get a lot of work done in a short amount of time," the spokesperson said.

"Make sure you go to the CityRail website for more information to make sure you don't miss any services."
