[ABC] Qld Oppn calls for more action on infrastructure

Queensland Rail NewsThe Queensland Opposition says the State Government has failed to deliver in real terms on a number of infrastructure projects planned for the next 20 years.

Premier Anna Bligh unveiled the draft plans for new underground train tracks and stations for Brisbane's CBD at an estimated cost of $14 billion.

Ms Bligh says four tunnels up to 13 kilometres long could be built under the city along with new train stations, and the project is one of 10 infrastructure projects Queensland has submitted to the Commonwealth's $20 billion infrastructure fund.

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg says he supports rail upgrades, but it is time for action.

"We're getting plan after plan but we're not getting any tracks," he said.

Ms Bligh says the new system would take two decades to build so the State Government is relying on the Commonwealth to match the funding.

"Without funds from the Commonwealth the time might have to be reconsidered," she said.

Mr Springborg also said the announcement has been timed to draw attention away from Labor defector Ronan Lee, who has spent his first day in Parliament as a Greens MP.
