Delays after train derailment

New South Wales Rail NewsPOLICE have warned of delays after a passenger train derailment at Unanderra on the NSW south coast.

The train was 150 metres north of the Unanderra Railway Station, heading towards Wollongong, when the front two carriages left the tracks around 2.45am (AEDT) on Saturday.

The six people on board, including the driver, escaped injury.

The train remains upright but will require heavy equipment to lift it back onto the tracks.

A neighbouring line is being used to allow freight trains to pass but police are warning commuters to expect delays between Unanderra and Wollongong for most of the day while the track is cleared.

Buses will be provided to ferry passengers between the two stops. Police and State Rail are trying to determine the cause of the incident.
