Maestrano Group’s acquired subsidiary Airsight has secured a contract to provide its automated defect detection and management platform to the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).
The government-owned ARTC manages 8,500km of rail network spread across five states of Australia.
Airsight will equip the ARTC data collection rail car with Corridor Insights light distance and ranging (LiDAR). It will also install high-resolution camera equipment.
This will aid in collecting a ‘point cloud’ and precise digital imagery of the rail network.
The Corridor Insights artificial intelligence (AI) platform processes the data collected by the technology. It uses this data to track encroachment and match network assets like trackside equipment.
Airsight co-founder Nick Smith, now vice-president of sales at Maestrano, said: “We are excited to announce this contract, which features our industry-leading NextCore LiDAR systems and our Corridor Insights AI platform for automated asset management in rail corridors.
“Together as Corridor.ai, the platform generates ongoing recurring revenue from the per-kilometre analysis of rail corridor data. ARTC is an existing client for other Airsight services. However, this is their first contract for Corridor.ai and our largest deployment to date.”
Maestrano CEO Andrew Pearson added: “This is another fantastic win by Nick and his team, proving the competitive advantage of our world-leading technology.
“NextCore and Corridor Insights are the core components of our Corridor.ai system, the world’s leading automated defect detection and management platform.”
In March, the Government of Australia committed an A$2bn ($1.42bn) investment for the proposed fast rail link between Melbourne and Geelong in the state of Victoria.
In 2018, ARTC issued a registration of interest (RoI) to form a public-private partnership (PPP) to build a section of Inland Rail in Queensland.
