Inland rail a trifecta for Toowoomba region: mayor
Metford and Thornton residents have joined forces to fight a $12 million railway siding facility between the two suburbs.
Queensland Rail has proposed to build a two kilometre state-of-the-art facility to carry out light maintenance work on freight trains servicing Upper Hunter coal mines off the existing rail line behind Thornton's Woodlands Estate.
Maitland City Council last year gave its in-principle support to the plan, which would create 30 jobs. But residents in Metford and Woodlands Estate are concerned about noise, the removal of vegetation and the proximity of the facility to their homes and Four Mile Creek.
