Local farmers have welcomed news that the NSW Government is to spend $5.3 million improving the Bogan Gate to Tottenham rail line, but say it is less than a quarter of what is needed.
Transport Services Minister Michael Costa has announced the work will include re-sleepering of 94 per cent of the line and an upgrade of bridges at Tullamore, Yethera and other smaller structures. A spokesman for the Tottenham/Bogan Gate rail branch line committee, Terry Fishpool, says he is pleased because he has been lobbying for the upgrade for many years. But he says an independent engineer's report suggested $21.6 million was needed to bring the line up to commercial standards.
