The A2-986 locomotive will depart Melbourne at 10.25am, travel through Werribee, stop in Geelong for lunch, before travelling on to Ballarat in the afternoon and finishing back in Melbourne on Saturday night.
It is part of Cruise Express’ five-day ‘Rail Spectacular’ tour from Sydney to Victoria and back.
More than 150 passengers will join the historic trip, while locals along the route can also join in and watch as the historic train passes through the region.
Cruise Express Product Manager Richard Boyce is encouraging train fans to keep an out for the 104-year-old locomotive.
"Steam is always very popular with everyone, not only on the train but of course off the train. Especially having a very rare and very old locomotive to take down there is really a huge highlight," he said.
