At this year’s National Rail Awards, Wakefield Westgate has won Best Large Station of the Year, rail operator London North Eastern Railway has confirmed.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Huw Edwards and Professor Jonathan Van-Tam MBE, who is Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England.
Judges praised the station highly for its high standard of presentation at the station and the great customer service offered by the LNER team.
David Horne, Managing Director at LNER, said: “I am thrilled Wakefield Westgate Station has been recognised in this year’s National Rail Awards. We are proud of the commitment shown by our station team who consistently provide world-class service to customers using the station, despite the challenges of the past year.”
A number of improvements have been made at Wakefield Westgate, with Platform 1 and 2 both receiving upgrades to lighting and their canopies.
LNER manages Wakefield Westgate and provides services between London and Scotland, the North East, and Yorkshire.
