Statement from Ixion Model Railways Ltd
A new production of Walthers Mainline covered hopper car models is available. There are eight road names in the release and each of those offerings includes four road numbers.
The assembled reproduction is ready for use on your HO-scale model railroad and presents Pullman-Standard’s 2,893-cubic-foot-capacity prototype. This three-bay covered hopper debuted on North American railroads in the 1950s and examples continued to see use into the 1990s. This type of freight car was designed for service hauling grain, aggregate, plastic pellets, potash, and other similar commodities. The plastic model include a detailed body shell with separately applied round hatches on the roof, brake rigging, and other features. The model rides on metal wheels mounted in plastics friction-type truck sideframes, and this release comes equipped with metal Proto MAX knuckle couplers.
The road names include Baltimore & Ohio; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; Chicago & North Western; The Milwaukee Road (gray with small red herald); New York Central (gray with black lettering); Penn Central (gray with small black “PC” herald); Santa Fe (gray with square circle-cross herald); and Southern Railway (gray with black billboard lettering. The coming Penn Central release appears to the a first-time offering for decoration on this Walthers Mainline covered hopper release. In addition to the road names listed, you’ll find an undecorated model (910-7000) available.
This model carries a $29.98 suggested retail price. Check with your hobby dealer for stock or visit Walthers online for additional information.
