The Old Ghan steam train will come to life & take passengers on a ride for the first time in three years on Saturday.
The Old Ghan steam train will come to life & take passengers on a ride for the first time in three years on Saturday.
The train was popular for its dinner rides until it was shut down in 2001.
The Old Ghan will operate services on the weekend & the dinner train for people attending the Road Transport Hall of Fame reunion at night.
Old Ghan Preservation Society vice president Sandi Todd said accreditation to restart services was awarded after months of planning.
Ms Todd said:” It’s been a long time since its run & once we’ve got it up & running you’ll see gradual improvements happening all the time.”
“This is the first step to getting a full-time service”
“We’ve been working on getting it up & running since February & the Transport Hall of fame reunion has speeded that process up a bit”
“We’ll be running rides over the weekend & at this stage it will run at 11.30am & 2.00pm but that could change & people will need to book”
