DB Regio selected for Rhein-Neckar operating contract
RB Rail, the company implementing the Rail Baltica project, signed a contract with a Systra-led consortium on January 18 to provide engineering and project management services for the preparation, procurement and supervision of the Control-Command and Signalling (CCS) subsystem for the project.
The consortium, which also includes Egis and Italferr, a subsidiary of Italian Railways (FS), will oversee the deployment of ERTMS Level 2, interlockings, traffic management, information and communication technologies (ICT), and ancillary, station, and non-traction power supply subsystems.
Under the contract, the engineering services team will undertake full responsibility of the management of the project and will set up a project management office, develop technical solutions and manage the implementation of the works providing technical supervision of design, construction, system integration, testing and commissioning, putting in operation and the defect notification period.
Rail Baltica is constructing an 870km standard gauge line through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
“Our goal is to provide a fully unified and interoperable CCS system along the whole 870km Rail Baltica route,” says Mr Marc-Philippe El Beze, chief technical officer and member of the management board at RB Rail. “To reach this target we were seeking a systems engineering services provider with the technical expertise, experience and skills to manage the implementation of this sophisticated, interconnected and almost state-of-the-art solution.”
