Serco, the British group which runs some detention centres for the Australian government, is to sell Great Southern Rail, which operates The Indian Pacific and The Ghan train services.
The group earlier booked impairment and related charges of £37.2 million ($71.9 million), involving a a £23.1 million impairment charge against the carrying value of the asset and a further £14.1 million to the break costs of leases relating to the business.
Owned originally by a consortium which included Macquarie Bank, Serco took full control of the company in 2000.
