Warsaw – Krakow was the most popular route, with 1.3 million passengers travelling using PKP services. May 5, the day after the May holiday weekend, was the most popular day with PKP Intercity carrying nearly 190,000 passengers.
About 950,000 passengers travelled between Warsaw and the Tri-City between January and June, while connections between the capital and Katowice, Poznań, Wrocław and Białystok were also popular.
Passenger growth has been steady, with the figures for each month consistently higher than the previous month.
“This is a very good omen for the second half of the year,” says PKP Intercity president of the management board, Mr Marek Chraniuk. “We hope that we will close 2019 with another increase in the number of travellers.”
PKP Intercity says it is also seeing a growth in the range of passengers using its service, with an 11% increase in families travelling, along with 8% more seniors and 2% more students. Passengers are also increasingly likely to take pets with them, with 17% more carried than the same period last year, while 7% more bicycles were taken on trips.
