The State Government is working on plans to boost phone coverage and install WiFi services on the Prospector.
Service delays and a lack of reception have been a bone of contention for passengers using the Prospector train between Perth and Kalgoorlie for many years.
Last weekend the issue surfaced among a list of policies to improve life in the Goldfields released by Kalgoorlie MLA Kyran O’Donnell and One Nation’s Robin Scott.
Labor Member for Mining and Pastoral Kyle McGinn said recent commentary around the matter from the Liberals was a bit rich.
“It is good to see they talk about it after they get out of government,” he said.
“We have been looking into it pretty closely with (Transport Minister) Rita Saffioti.
“It was raised with her out here and we are finding better ways to get that WiFi onto it and we have also already commenced trying to get better phone coverage on the train.”
Mr MGinn said improving reliability of the train to run on time was on the cards too.
The policy paper released last weekend also recommended investigating overnight trains to compete with airlines.
