Model DL541 ALCo no.604 sits on the standard gauge holding road at Mile End Diesel Depot during June 1986, with ALCos 705 and 869 keeping it company along with EMD inspired product GM41 .
604 was delivered to the South Australian Railway in late 1969 with ownership transferring to Australian National in 1978. In the early 1990s it was sold to Morrison Knudsen for conversion into a tractive effort booster unit (TEBU) - the experiment was complete failure and ended up as a waste of a perfectly good locomotive.
