A panorama of part of the yard at Broken Hill, New South Wales in August 1991.
In the foreground a pair of Silverton Rail DL531 ALCos are shunting a load of zinc and lead ores from the local mines in preparation for their journey to the smelters at Port Pirie in South Australia.
Behind them can be seen another Silverton DL531 and an Australian National CL class locomotive stabled at the local loco depot.
In the background an ABFX wagon or similar is being unloaded with general goods for the town that has probably come up on an overnight service from Adelaide. Such traffic is now consigned by road.
