The men – and woman – in orange explained to me that the Network Rail “New Measurement Train” isn’t new. It’s a converted Intercity High Speed Train which has been in operation for more than ten years in this form, and it is used for running new tests for checking the condition of the track.

A man is in hospital after the car he was driving fell 10 metres onto train tracks and was struck by a train.
At around 9:00 on Friday night, the sedan was travelling on a side road beside the Great Western Highway near Blaxland, when it drove through a fence and fell ten metres onto the tracks.

A TRAIN has derailed near Pine Creek but the company that own the railway is trying to keep it secret.
The NT News has confirmed the derailment – believed to be a freight train - happened about 230km south of Darwin late yesterday.

A CONTRACT to build a spectacular four-kilometre elevated section of Sydney's $8.3 billion North West Rail Link has been awarded to the Italian Impregilo-Salini joint venture.
Premier Barry O'Farrell and Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian today announced the $340 million contract for the "skytain", including a new "landmark" bridge over Windsor Road at Rouse Hill.

Network Rail will be reclassified as a government body in 2014 as part of a package of changes to the public finances, adding £30bn to Britain's national debt, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has announced.
Because the government plays a significant role in overseeing Network Rail, through the Office of the Rail Regulator, and the taxpayer would inevitably be left picking up the bill for keeping the trains running if Network Rail collapsed, the ONS says it is best considered a "central government body".

The Victorian Opposition has released what it describes as an ambitious but conservative plan to relieve congestion on the state's roads.
If it wins government next year, Labor says it will lease out the Port of Melbourne to a private operator.
Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews says that will provide the money to pay for the removal of 50 of Victoria's most dangerous level crossings.

CFCL Australia (CFCLA) are set to officially launch the newest member of their locomotive hire fleet.
CF4412, the latest addition to the CF Class (Production model C44aci, built at UGL Rail, Broadmeadow, NSW) and is currently undergoing testing. The first six members of the class are on hire to Pacific National for Hunter Valley coal traffic. When launched CF4412 will carry the name "Black Caviar", continuing CFCLA's tradition of naming locomotives after Melbourne Cup winners.

The biggest service shutdown in the history of the Perth rail system will happen in July and August as part of essential works to sink the railway, the Public Transport Authority has revealed.
No trains will pass through Perth Central Station during two five-day blocks from July 12 to 17 and July 31 to August 4, both of which include weekends.

The main railway line from Adelaide to Sydney was blocked after a freight train derailed at Yunta in north-eastern SA. The Australian Rail Track Corporation says damage to the track has to be assessed before the route can reopen. The CFS put out a fire at the scene, but remained concerned about a leak from one of the carriages. No one was injured.

A clean-up is underway this evening after a full-laden coal train derailed in spectacular fashion from a bridge near Boggabri this afternoon.
At 2.45pm the train was travelling across the bridge 800metres from Boggabri when 5 or 6 carriages have derailed.
