Box Hill station

I have noticed there is a unused platform at box hill station (platform 1), have there or are there any plans for this platform to be put into use? It appears to be quite run down

This has been discussed here before.

Platform 1 was the first platform built, whilst trains were still using the two northern-side platforms of the former ground-level station.  Then up trains were diverted through the new platform 1 whilst another of the ground-level platforms was demolished and the cutting widened for platform 2.  Then after down trains were diverted through platform 2, the remaining ground-level platform was demolished and the cutting widened again to provide platforms 3 and 4.  Platform 1 was then taken out of use as only three platforms were needed, but platform 1 was always intended to remain for potential future use.  There have been nor further specific plans to do so, however, as far as I know.

Prior to putting Box Hill underground, Blackburn was rebuilt with three platforms and the signalling between Box Hill and Blackburn was upgraded to allow an increased frequency between those two points, so that all Box Hill trains were extended to Blackburn.  After Box Hill got three platforms some Blackburn services reverted to Box Hill, but Blackburn retained some and now they all go to Blackburn, with no trains being scheduled to terminate at Box Hill.

Some trains terminate at Box Hill... only a handful in peak hour. (if that many).

I suspect once the 3rd track to Blackburn is built a 4th platform maybe needed, so it may come into use.

The whole station needs a makeover. Its gloomy, smelly, dirty and has real bad lighting.

Trains only terminate at Box Hill if they are running late or there is some other problem.

No services are actually timetabled to terminate at Box Hill anymore.

The last time I recall when trains terminated at box hill is when there were trackworks from Mitcham-Blackburn.

It is a shame they don't use Mitcham anymore to terminate trains during track work. Anyone remember a good few years back now (Around 95/96/97?) when trains went to Mitcham, then terminated, then returned to the city? I caught a train to the footy that day and it was something that isn't forgotten. Seeing the desto scroll aimlessly, signals on plt 2 showing clear proceed (Anyone know if these have been used since?), crossing from down to up tracks. All good fun!

There was a down BBN service which terminated at BOX about a week or 2 ago due to late running.

Not to mention any Phantom trains which might terminate there.. but its pritty unlikely

I took this time lapse of operations at Box Hill while it is terminus during the Blackburn and Heatherdale level crossings removal.

I thought it might interest a few people here.
