Even worse, the triple whammy getting them there : Airshow, Down Peak and Up Football all at once.

Its not so much rolling stock for the later return but the shortage of crews.

On Ch7 last night they said Friday at the start of the game then appologised at half time and said Satuday. I guess the AFL site would be more accurate.

Why would you want to go the airshow its a waste of farken money

That may be your view, however just because we all have a common  interest in trains, railways & PT in general doesn't mean we don't pursue other interests as well. I enjoy gardening and classic cars.
A very good friend of mine who is a V/Line driver can name every aeroplane that exists whilst I can name none.

Consequently simple minded statements like yours are unlikely to assist in ingratiating yourself to the other posters in these pages.

Mike.

In regards to footy trains on Friday afternoon/night on the Geelong line; V/Line have got the following built up/altered time/additional trains operating for the game:-

Ups:-
- 8244 (1650 up Marshall): N Loco + VN set (as usual), arrives Southern Cross 1801
- 8246 (1725 up South Geelong): N Loco + FN set + N set (7 cars), arrives Southern Cross 1843
- 8260 (1746 up Marshall empty cars): has been altered to run as a train, consisting of the usual 7 VLocity cars (2x2 Car VLocity + 1x3 Car VLocity); stopping at Marshall, South Geelong, Geelong, North Geelong, then running express to Southern Cross, arriving 18:58

Downs:-
- 8291 (2215 Southern Cross - South Geelong): additional service, consisting of 2x3 Car VLocity units
- 8269 (2205 Southern Cross - Marshall): altered to depart Southern Cross at 2220, consisting of N Loco + FN set + N set (7 cars)
- 8255 (2305 Southern Cross - South Geelong): 1x2 car VLocity as usual; advertised as footy special

So in the way of footy specials; quite unusual considering its a grand final that Geelong are in (albeit NAB cup) that there's only three each way and only one additional service put on as such; but what can you do when the airshows on the same weekend!  8)

Hopefully Geelong fans are advised accordingly to drive!

Will be very interesting to see what V/Line do with all the Avalon airshow specials along with Geelong playing in next weeks NAB cup grand final against Collingwood at Docklands Stadium.

Etihad Stadium, I believe.

Pardon the OT question, but who the hell is Etihad?

Hence why many of us call most grounds the same way the ABC do... the non commercial name of Docklands Stadium is my choice.

Dear All

Don't know if these have already been posted somewhere else on here, but not in this thread anyway. Train graphs for the weekend can be found on Vicsig, with some consist details.

It was nice and sunny when I first got lineside this morning, then a s^%#load of rain until it cleared around lunchtime. I happened to check Gheringhap Loop during the day, and noticed a BG grain had come into town, so chased that out to Elaine, then headed back to the airshow specials. There were a few SG trains  around, two Ghan liveried NRs on various trains, and GM36 on the down Portland mineral springs sand train. The sun was out for a while, then a storm hit around 1830, but by then most of the push-pull specials were done, so back home!

Hi all,

Here's a small selection of my shots from today:

The rain is rapidly approaching as N459 races 8220 up Warrnambool pass towards Melbourne between Manor and Werribee
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/n459_8220_manor-werribee.jpg[/bigimg]

NR25 in the Indian Pacific livery hauling MA8 down Overland between Werribee and Manor:
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/nr25_ma8_werribee-manor.jpg[/bigimg]

The rain has well and truly arrived as P11 and P13 run 8281 push pull service through Little River
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/p11_p13_8281_little_river.jpg[/bigimg]

I have almost forgotten what rain like this looks like, but yes I was crazy enough to get out of the car and grab this shot of N462 with 8264 between Lara and Little River
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/n462_8264_lara_little_river.jpg[/bigimg]

The rain has now eased by the time I took this shot of P16 leading 8237 as it approaches Lara:
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/p16_p12_8237_lara.jpg[/bigimg]

The dark clouds are still hanging in the sky as N457 and N468 depart Lara with 8268 up push pull service
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/n457_n468_8268_lara.jpg[/bigimg]

The sun is finally emerging as P13 and P11 race towards Little River with 8288 up pass:
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/p13_p11_8288_lara-little_river.jpg[/bigimg]

Although there didn't seem to be quite as much flying around today when compared to 2007, it was still an interesting diversion while waiting for the next train. Any plane gunzels on here who might be able to identify what this is?
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/plane_little-river_lara.jpg[/bigimg]

Finally, the sun is fully out as P16 leads 8815 empty cars away from Lara:
[bigimg]http://vr.railpage.org.au/temp/geelong_line_20090314/p16_p12_8815_lara.jpg[/bigimg]

Unfortunately it didn't last long. The light is already fading rapidly on this shot of NR75 and NR114 with PM6 near Lara as the storm mentioned by wongm approaches.

Hi All,
I saw quite a nice variety of trains on the Geelong line today, spending just under 12 hours on it! Push pull P's, six car VLocities, push pull N's, N class hauled passes, the Overland, QRN, PN and El Zorro freights, and a broad gauge grain!!!

Details of trains and times will be provided at a later date; as will photos and video which can't be uploaded yet due to me only being able to access dialup at my present away from home residence! (I forgot how bad it was back in the early part of this century Razz)

Should be another good gunzelling day tomorrow, hopefully the weathers better too Razz

Cheers

Thanks 42101. It did about 4 flights right over the top of me. Smile

I attended the airshow today and that bomber makes such a loud noise your ears hurt.

Looking forward to the gunzel videos and photos from the weekend's workings. Already a good start by VRfan.

What happened to the Overland? It's shrunk! It used to be a lot longer than that! ShockedShocked With the NR on the front, it's overkill!
