The SAR steel cars were built between the late 30's and early 40's.

NDS2269 andTDS 2243 were sold to the Murraylander at TailemBend about  8 years ago.
The other cars are not for sale because they are not encumbered under the loan aggreement and the owners wish to pursue their project.

Nor was it listed as part of the Ritz Rail rolling stock in the Rail Infrastructure Corporation "Train Operating Conditions" of the time.

Would you please advise further!

There was certainly a blue painted SBS type car at Tailem Bend several years ago. It has been photographed and reported to be ex Steamrail, but this is the first time I've seen its number quoted as 2243. If anyone can confirm its true identity that would be great!

NDS&TDS both came from Warren Judd although the tds was in Vic at some stage.
These cars were sold at the same time as 3 ex SA 750/780 class cars were sold by Ritz Rail to the Lithgow State Mine Railway.
Also about this time RR sold their ex NSW powercar to GSR and it has been used on the"OVERLAND" ever scince
The comrails site list for the Murraylander or Australian Locomotive & Railway Carriage Co P/L is abismally wrong ,there was a list of their rollingstock in a catchpoint some years ago and a current list 12mths ago when they called an expression of interest.
They also bought and sold various overland cars and VRSs ex Westcoast Railway that all ended up as crewcars

I saw both the blue car (2243?) and the yellow car (2269?) in Dynon and possibly in Creek Sidings quite some time ago. I have subsequently seen both at Tailem Bend.

I too would like these identities confirmed, although I might have been able to read a number from the underframe of the yellow car, I couldn't find one on the blue car in any of my photographs.

Could be Steamrail, they already have some of those SA cars.

Could not be SCT to be used as crew cars, as they are only on Standard gauge.

False information

A little bit more information has come to light. But a decision will be made on Monday i'm told.

4 Carriages have the possibility of heading to Victoria and the Broad Gauge network.

CP Van
601 'Tweed'
607 'Richmond'
708 'Cape Byron'

Not all to the same group/people either. Thats all the information I have, as Monday said on another thread, they all got passed in at auction.
  monday Chief Commissioner

Good luck to whoever has bought them - like a boat, the cheap part is buying the thing in the first instance.  Hand in pocket constantly from thereon.

Entering into the realm of postulating, if they are headed to a TR it would be hard to think why someone like 707 or SRV would want them.

Whilst SRV have 500, 600, 700, 702, 703 in service, i guess they also have 711, 751 and 782 which havent appeared to not have been restored (open to correction), plus a fleet of SOP cars, BZ, W and E cars - hard to imagine why they would want more, although 502 is a beautiful carriage inside.

Probably the same could be said for SRHC too, not sure why they would want them, again more rollingstock just means the same bucket of money is spread thinner.  Having more carriages doesnt mean you earn more income.

If they are going to private car owners, I hope they've done their research.

In any instance, its certainly better than them being ripped off their bogies and being used for some ridiculous tea and scone cafe in the middle of nowhere in the country.

No idea where you'd get spare BG bogies for the 500 and 600's as they are quite proprietary.  Even the 700's arent there arent that many of, but granted more prospects than other.

It would do well for either SRHC or Steamrail to operate a Ritz Rail style of train.

Marketing had been done by one of them, which says there is a very good and strong market for the type of which the Ritz Rail cars are built for.

While the whole train would be best, at least they may have the choice to offer 'upper market dining' as an option to some of their longer distance tours/trips, which would be a very good business venture for the said organisation.

I can confirm now that Steamrail Victoria have secured

601 'Tweed'
607 'Richmond'
and a swap for the CP Van for 502 'Oxley'

708 'Cape Byron' has gone to a private sale in Victoria which will reside at Newport also funnily enough.

Great to see these cars will still remain in an operational context. Beautiful carriages - the members of SRV wont be disappointed.

Good luck to the guys who made this happen in the background at SRV!

With an expansion of the 'K' set fleet, does this mean that other E and W cars will be used less, or is this for increased functionality (like a lunch or dining car service)?

As a side, Les, if does turn out that SRV do now need additional $ for purchase and removal of these cars... he he  Wink  (had to be a cheeky bugger!)

This is only my opinion, but considering that there are no dining cars in the E and W car fleet, I would think these new cars would supplement the existing fleet rather than replace it.

Dont know where you get your info from?

They are in Gemco's depot (related to South Spur aka SSRS, NOT Southern Shorthaul) at Parkes.  Parkes yard is basically the main line and loops, and the rest is either leased by PN or Gemco.

Southern Shorthaul has no financial interest or relationship whatsoever with these carriages.

As I understand all parties at Parkes want them out the way.
