GUIDELINES

These threads will be open all year round, we have some guidelines for your help.

There is a marker in all Bogie Nomination Threads, to help you see where the thread starts. See below.

Read the category descriptions in the first post in each thread.

If you don't post a link to a nominated post or thread, I may reject that. I am not here to trawl all over Railpage looking for your nominated post. Do your own footwork or lose the nomination.

If your nomination doesn't fit neatly anywhere, put it in the "Other Notable Achievement" category.  If I get enough nominations for a particular type of achievement, I may start a new category.  Don't start new nominations threads.

Don't nominate yourself.  It's unseemly.  In the "Most Informative Contributor" category, it's downright pathetic.

You can nominate more than one person, but be aware that if I run out of space in the eventual poll, I might only accept your first nomination.  You have more chance of my accepting multiple nominations if you give good reasons for each of your nominations.

I may also reject any nomination I believe is not in the spirit of the particular Bogie or the Bogies generally. Nominations which are not in the scope of the Terms of Use or the Rules for Posting will be rejected. Take note that a number of negative and trolling types of nominations have been rejected.

Don't nominate someone for a category in which they have already been nominated this year. You can add to or discuss the reasons for a previous nomination if you wish, but definitely no "me-too" posts. Nominations don't need to be seconded.

I intend that from now on, most nomination threads will stay open year-round, with an annual cut off date for each year's Bogies.

Some threads also contain last year's nominations.  Don't get confused - if someone's already been nominated for a category and you wanted to nominate them for that category, please check that the previous nomination was not for a previous year.

Be nice.

I may ignore, change or add to these guidelines if needed.

As always, enjoy Railpage.
It's here for you.

It has been four months since any post was made in any Bogie thread.

Do The Bogies still exist or has a lack of interest and post quality seen them put quietly to bed?

Put 'em to bed, pension them off. I found them stupid.

I thought they were a nice idea, but the problem was, it wasn't representative. Not enough people voted to make them mean something, and some of the winners acted like they'd won an oscar or something, when really it was 11 votes to 10!

My own server hosts the images I have placed in the Bogies over the years, and checking the stats this morning, much to my surprise, there are over 5000 hits on these images for the month of March. Checking back to earlier months shows a similar usage. So the Bogies are popular, somewhere.

Moreover, I was surprised to come here this morning and find fifteen people browsing through this forum. Does this indicate that there is either interest in the content, or perhaps, some wistful desire to see the Bogies return? Or maybe, a transformation?

RP was recently subjected to something of a hack-attack with a spam bot posting in many previously quiet areas.  I realise the images themselves are on your own server but might this be a reason if Bogie threads have been reawakened through this attack?

I don't think this is the case in this instance; the usage of images has been high over several months. Many months, in fact. The Bogies forum itself has not been hack-attacked with spurious posts; at least, that I can see.  People have been viewing, reading. What is afoot?

If people don't want to participate, obviously their opinion won't be representative in any award. I'm not sure that this matters.

I know that some of the 2011 categories had few nominations. Maybe,  those just need to be awarded to somebody and the category closed. 2011 might be a bit long ago for people to remember what posts fitted what categories. I noticed that some threads had posts like "Can I nominate you for a Bogie for that?". Such posts in a way required someone else to nominate themself, which they might have been uninterested in doing.

I guess also that there'll be years when nothing makes you roll on the floor laughing, even though there are many that make you snigger. Post of the year is always an uncertain category. For many people, it's the most funny post that didn't make them roll on the floor.

I've said it before, but their time has passed.

I haven't been around here much lately (and it did not help that in the past when i wanted to take some time out on here the site wouldnt work) and what I have noticed that since Jan 1 the thread density has dropped off significantly, so yeah maybe 'their time has passed'

In the past if I have been away from here usually I have many threads to catch up on but it hasn't been the case this time this quarter.

Maybe they can't find the hidden login box :p

I can't even find any discussion on the 2012 Eveleigh Open Day  I know gunzels were there as I saw them there with my own eyes.

It might be people or spam bots visiting whatever the mentioned/latest thread is on the index page, rather than clicking through the categories
