If your interested in the history, i remember that there was an article on the overland and bluebird rail cars in railway digest, if you can get a back issue.

The april 2008 had an article on the bluebirds, and the november 2008 had an article on the overland cars.

I think these articles were written by a Railpage member, but i dont fully remember who it was Smile

If you want ex VR S cars, QRN's QCBY 8 (and maybe 5?) look much better in silver grey with yellow window band and red letterboard...

I haven't actually seen a PN crew car coded JRB.

They have two cars RZEY 1 and RZEY 3 that appear to be JRA (or JTA) type

They have an ex NSW FAM that retains the original code and number.

There are a couple of mistakes in Marcus' captions....

The riveted BRS is BRS 225 not 228

PSDS 2248 was never an SDS. It was a terminal SBS as built. It was converted to include a large baggage compartment and guard's compartment becoming type SBH. It was sold to AN and was used briefly on the Indian Pacific, and then sold to Ritz Rail and then was rebuilt by Gemco in Forrestfield as a PSDS for SCT.

Thanks All expecilly Alco251_244 for the info given.

Does any have a similar list for the ex VR S cars that are now crew cars.
  SN7 Chief Commissioner

Ex VR S cars other than BRS are BS208  & BS210  which were sold as part of the non operational former WCR fleet to RTS (Later GEMCO) then on Sold to QRN.

GSR have several crew cars in its passenger train fleet , reffered to as "dorm" cars - of the ER classification , and also use  former overland JTB  1-4 cars for this purpose.

Pacific national obtained FAM 2389 from the Broadmeadow? brakedown train ex SRA(Railcorp) and converted it to a gypsy wagon, and it is also used for other testing purposes. Another FAM 2386 was also partially converted to part of a breakdown train van however is now in Queensland privately allocated by Railcorp for preservation.

CFCLA obtained overland cars AJ 1 , 2 & 3  for crew car conversion, however I think these are still not converted and stored at islington.

In Victoria, preservation groups SRHC has former V/Line crew accomodation carriage "Mitta Mitta" fully refurbished in 1995, however never officially used by V/Line  (formerly BRS 228), Steamrail has wooden bodied carriage "Goulburn" a former dining  car converted to sleeper - lounge -kitchen.  West Coast Railway obtained former Westrail carriage WAL 951 and used it as a crew car, it is now stored privately owned at SRHC.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here, SCT has at least 2 of the ex NSWR cars as crew cars. The second appeared a while after the first as it seems cleaner.

GSR uses ER, JTB and BRJ class cars for passenger service crew and the extra set of drivers accomodation on the Ghan and IP. (two on the standard consists, three on double consists)

They have not been especially converted to "crew cars" as have the freight company crew cars, in that they don't have kitchens and "lounge" areas.

In the words of a relative that worked for GSR at one time "Reasonable, but not up to fare paying passenger standards"

PN is using the RZNY crew cars (RZNY1 & RZNY2) on the GNR in Qld. I believe these cars are ex-South Africa via Hotham Valley Railway.

There are at least four PSDS cars.
2279, 2273, 2280 and 2248, converted in that order I think.
2248 was the last converted. It was easy to tell because while the others were stored at Forrestfield in the remnants of their State Rail red livery, 2248 was in dark blue Ritz Rail livery.

The second car in the photo with the CSR units is 2279, the only one with a seam in the letterboard.

I admit I didn't say how many in my post above, only that 2248 was never an SDS class.

Or even better a interior layout drawing of each  car  if possible & pic's of  Galley/lounge area . we all know what the  sleeping  quarters  would be like  provided there  has been  no major alteration to them   to accomodate maybe a double bed    in case the wife  or girl friend  tags along  for a flying  visit. Another q. comes to mind ,  do the companys  provide  all the food  or is it  still up to train crews to provide their own ?

The interior of the crew vans has been completely changed from what they were originally. The PSDS vans contain 5 compartments, each with a single bed and small cupboard to hang clothes etc on. Companies do not supply food, this is up to the individual train crews.
